Ninja DualBrew review: the peace treaty for houses split over pods

Updated by Isadora Venn. Links to Amazon earn us a commission (how that works).

This Ninja DualBrew review covers the GP161, the grounds-and-pods model that Amazon sold directly when we logged it on Oct. 27, 2026. Ninja sells several DualBrew versions, and they differ more than the shared name suggests.

Verdict

Buy it if one person in your house won't give up pods and everyone else wants a real pot. Skip it if nobody truly needs pods; a plain drip machine brews better coffee for less.

Two machines on one counter is the usual compromise in mixed households. The DualBrew folds them into one body with a shared reservoir. That's useful, and it's also the reason to think twice: a pod habit is the most expensive way to drink coffee, and a machine that makes pods convenient keeps that habit alive.

So we treat this as a household problem-solver, not a coffee-quality pick.

One side takes pods and brews 6 to 12 oz. The other side brews grounds from a single cup up to a 12-cup glass carafe. Four styles (Classic, Rich, Over Ice and Cold Brew) work across both.

The cold brew mode is the surprise. Ninja's listing claims a single cup in under 10 minutes and a full carafe in under 20, which is a different thing from overnight cold brew but useful in summer.

Brew with this if two coffee habits share one kitchen and counter space is tight.

Choose another if the pod drinker in your house would switch to grounds if asked; then buy a better drip machine. See OXO Brew 8-Cup on Amazon

A listing doing the heavy lifting

There's no SCA certification here, and no 2026 editor review of the GP161 that we could verify. Some 2026 roundups praise Ninja's DualBrew Pro line, but that's a different model family with a different number, so we don't borrow its results.

What we have is a detailed listing sold by Amazon. It answers the questions that matter for this type of machine: what sizes each side brews, how big the reservoir is, how long the plate stays on and how tall the machine stands.

That's why the card shows a "Listing specs" badge. For a hybrid machine, the evidence that counts most is whether its dimensions and sizes fit your household.

The Ninja DualBrew specs to check first: 15.47 in tall on a 10.09 by 10.67 in footprint, the tallest of our ten picks. Most kitchens with 18 in under the cabinets will fit it, but there's little room to open anything on top. Measure with a tape, not by eye.

The 60 oz reservoir detaches for filling. A fold-down cup tray raises short mugs closer to the spout so coffee doesn't splash. Ninja includes a 12-cup glass carafe, a scoop and a paper filter kit.

Mixed households

Where the DualBrew earns its counter space:

  • A pod drinker and a pot drinker. One 10 oz pod mug and a 30 oz pot from grounds each morning. Pods cost about $175 a year at this site's default 48 cents each; the pot side about $334 in beans.
  • Summer iced coffee. Over Ice brews concentrated coffee directly onto ice so it doesn't dilute, and the rapid cold brew mode covers the rest.
  • Guests. Visitors who only know pods can use the pod side without asking how much coffee to scoop.

The warming plate is adjustable for up to four hours. Set it low or pour the carafe into a thermos. A glass carafe on a plate is the weakest point of this machine.

Cleaning both sides

Think of the Ninja DualBrew as two machines when you're cleaning. The carafe basket gets a rinse after each pot, and the pod holder needs its drips and stray grounds cleared daily. Wipe around the pod needle once a week; a clogged needle is the usual reason the pod side starts brewing slowly.

How to descale the Ninja DualBrew: run the manual's clean cycle with a coffee maker descaler, then flush plain water through both the pod side and the carafe side. Both draw from one reservoir, so scale builds in one place and slows everything.

One gap in the accessory market: when we searched for a replacement carafe on Oct. 28, every result was built for Ninja's CFP-series DualBrew Pro, and none named the GP161. Until one does, treat the glass pot gently, or ask Ninja support for the part number.

The filter kit uses paper filters; small single-serve papers for Ninja's pod-and-grounds side are sold separately.

Price and deals

The Ninja DualBrew price isn't printed here; the seller is the useful part. On Oct. 27 and Oct. 28, 2026, the GP161 was sold by Amazon. Two DualBrew Pro listings came back with figures far below their usual price class. Our price rules don't automatically flag those, but we'd treat a big-name machine at a fraction of its normal price as a listing to double-check.

Ninja DualBrew deals come and go, and the Prestige model with Nespresso-compatible espresso sits in a higher tier. Make sure the model number matches before you compare.

Worries this machine answers

Can it make just one cup?

Yes, two ways: a pod from 6 to 12 oz, or a single cup brewed from grounds.

Brews grounds from a single-serve cup to a carafe; pods from 6 to 12 oz (Amazon listing).

Pods or beans: what does a cup really cost?

The machine doesn't change the math: pods cost more per mug. The DualBrew just makes it easy to use pods only when you need them.

Default comparison: 10 oz mug about $0.30 from beans, $0.48 from a pod (Brew Clock math).

Alternatives

The main rival is Keurig's K-Duo, compared on Keurig K-Duo vs Ninja DualBrew. Households ready to drop pods should read Keurig alternatives.

Who it suits best

Mixed households. Hosts who have guests used to pods. Iced coffee drinkers who want quick cold brew in summer.

The DualBrew is at its best when the pod side is used occasionally and the carafe side does the daily work. Flip that around and you're paying pod prices every morning for a machine whose main selling point is that it doesn't force you to, which defeats the purpose of buying a hybrid in the first place.

It's a poor fit for small spaces under low cabinets. At 15.47 in, measure before you order.

Pot math, pod math

The carafe side is rated at 12 cups, about 60 oz at 5 oz each, from a 60 oz reservoir:

HouseholdCoffee per morningOn the Ninja DualBrew GP161Beans per year
Solo, one 12 oz mug12 ozOne pot (20% of 60 oz)$134
Couple, two 10 oz mugs each40 ozOne pot (67% of 60 oz)$445
Two remote workers, three 8 oz mugs each48 ozOne pot (80% of 60 oz)$534
Family, three 12 oz mugs36 ozOne pot (60% of 60 oz)$401
Small office, six people, two 8 oz cups96 ozTwo pots (160% of 60 oz)$1,068

The solo row is where the pod side earns its keep, if you accept the pod price.
