Best drip coffee makers of 2026, ranked by brew temperature and carafe

Updated by Isadora Venn. Links to Amazon earn us a commission (how that works).

Drip coffee makers are still the best way to make a pot for more than one person. This page narrows the drip coffee machine shelf down to the models that either passed the SCA's brewing tests or come with a listing honest enough to judge.

Short answer

What is the best drip coffee maker? The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select. It's certified by the Specialty Coffee Association for 2026, brews 40 oz in 4 to 6 minutes, and carries a five-year warranty. For a thermal carafe at a lower price, take the OXO Brew 8-Cup.

The best drip coffee makers have one thing in common, and it isn't a feature list. They heat water into the right range fast and keep it there while it runs through the grounds. Everything else on the box (timers, strength buttons, cold brew modes) matters less than that.

So the ranking below starts with the SCA list, then sorts by carafe and size. A machine that's missing from the list can still be good; it just has to earn its place another way.

If you've been reading drip coffee maker reviews for a while, you've seen this one at the top before. The reason hasn't changed. It's simple and fast, and it's certified. The KBGV Select adds a half-pot switch to the basic Moccamaster, so a weekday pot for one doesn't come out weak.

What you give up is a timer. You press one switch in the morning, and the machine is done before the toast.

Brew with this if you're happy to press a switch each morning and want the one drip machine with nearly every box ticked.

Choose another if you'd rather wake up to a full pot with zero effort. Set-and-forget brewing is the OXO 9-Cup's job. See OXO Brew 9-Cup on Amazon

OXO's 8-Cup is the drip coffee machine I'd hand to someone who asks for "the good one, but not the expensive one." It's on the SCA list, and its double-wall carafe keeps the pot off any hot plate.

Its trick is the single-serve basket, which swaps in when only one person is drinking. Few drip makers handle a lone mug without turning it thin.

Brew with this if you brew for one or two and want certified results in a thermal pot.

Choose another if four or more mugs leave your kitchen on a normal weekday; go bigger with a 60 oz tank. See Breville Luxe Brewer Thermal on Amazon

Breville's Luxe Brewer is a drip machine for people who like to fiddle. Bloom and flow rate are yours to set, temperature too, or you can leave it on its Golden Cup preset and forget the menus exist.

It took over from the Precision Brewer on the SCA list in 2025. The tank holds 60 fl oz, and the thermal carafe keeps coffee above 150°F for up to four hours.

Brew with this if your beans change every few weeks and you want the brew to follow them.

Choose another if a menu of settings sounds like homework. Then you'd be happier with one switch. See Moccamaster KBGV Select on Amazon

The 9-Cup is OXO's programmable thermal drip machine. Set the dial at night, and the pot is waiting at whatever time you chose.

It isn't on the SCA's current list, although OXO quotes the same 194 to 205°F window as its certified 8-Cup. The Coffee Locator rates it the best value among the drip makers it tried this year.

Brew with this if a timed pot matters more to you than a certification sticker.

Choose another if you want the SCA mark on the box; the 8-Cup has it and costs about the same. See OXO Brew 8-Cup on Amazon

What makes a drip machine good

Temperature first. The SCA's certification asks for water at 92°C (197.6°F) at the grounds inside the first minute, and many cheap drip coffee makers never publish a number at all. A machine that brews too cool tastes sour and thin no matter how much coffee you add.

Then contact, which is the part of brewing that cheap machines quietly get wrong when they dribble water onto one spot in the middle of the basket and leave the edges dry. Water needs to soak the whole bed of grounds evenly, which is why spray heads keep getting wider. OXO calls its version a Rainmaker; Mr. Coffee's new budget model claims a showerhead 65 percent larger than an older one.

Time is the third piece. A full pot that takes 12 minutes overextracts the first grounds and underextracts the last, and the SCA fails anything over 8 minutes. The Moccamaster's 4 to 6 minutes is about as quick as home drip gets.

Basket shape is a smaller effect than forums suggest. Breville ships both a cone and a flat basket with the Luxe because the two pull slightly different flavors from the same coffee, and it cites UC Davis research for that claim. Most people won't notice.

Drip worries

Does it get the water hot enough?

On the certified machines, yes, and they've proven it in a lab. On the rest, you're relying on the maker's word or a reviewer's thermometer.

Certified drip picks on this page: Moccamaster KBGV Select (2026), OXO Brew 8-Cup (2025), Breville Luxe Brewer (2025), Bonavita Enthusiast (2026), KRUPS Essential (2025), per the SCA list.

Will a hot plate make it taste burnt?

A glass pot on a plate is fine for the first stretch of the morning, then it slowly turns flat and harsh. If your coffee often sits past an hour, buy thermal.

The OXO 8-Cup glass version uses a smart-timed warming plate; the Moccamaster plate turns off at 100 minutes (Amazon listings).

How long does a full pot take?

Fast is good here. A certified brewer finishes a pot inside 8 minutes by rule, and the quickest makers publish their times.

Moccamaster: 40 oz in 4 to 6 minutes. Bonavita Enthusiast: under 7 minutes (Amazon listings).

Budget drip machines like the Mr. Coffee and Ninja leave most rows as "Not listed". That isn't a mark against them on its own; it just means you're buying on price and reputation instead of published numbers.

Glass or thermal?

Glass carafes cost less and let you see how much is left. Their weakness is the hot plate underneath, which keeps cooking the coffee. Taste drops the longer it sits.

Thermal carafes skip the plate. The coffee cools slowly instead of cooking, which most people prefer by the second mug. The trade is weight and a pot you can't see into.

If you drink the whole pot within an hour, glass is fine and saves money. If anyone in your house wanders back for a refill at ten, buy thermal. That one decision matters more than the brand.

Drip FAQ

What is the best drip coffee maker for most people?

The Moccamaster KBGV Select, followed closely by the OXO Brew 8-Cup if you want a thermal carafe for less.

Are expensive drip coffee makers worth it?

The jump from $35 to $200 buys temperature control and usually a thermal carafe, which you can taste. The jump from $200 to $400 mostly buys build quality, a longer warranty and settings.

Do drip coffee makers need special filters?

Cone baskets take No. 4 cone filters; flat baskets take 8 to 12-cup basket filters. The Fellow Aiden is unusual in taking both.

How long does a drip coffee maker take to brew a full pot?

Certified machines finish inside 8 minutes. The Moccamaster quotes 4 to 6 minutes for 40 oz.

Which drip coffee machine keeps coffee hot longest?

Among the picks, Breville's Luxe Brewer claims above 150°F for up to four hours in its thermal carafe.

Is a drip coffee maker better than a pod machine?

For more than one mug a day, yes, on both taste and cost. Pods win only on speed for a single cup.

What size drip coffee maker do I need?

Add up the ounces your household drinks each morning and divide by 5. That's how many maker cups you need from one pot.
