Best coffee maker with grinder: the 2026 shortlist

Updated by Isadora Venn. Links to Amazon earn us a commission (how that works).

If you came looking for the best coffee makers 2026 with grinder built in, there are fewer good answers than the shelf suggests. Most grind-and-brew machines are ordinary drip makers with a grinder bolted on. One on this page passed the SCA's tests with its grinder attached.

Short answer

Among the best coffee makers with grinders, the Café Specialty Grind and Brew is the safest buy: it's on the SCA certified list (2023 entry), grinds with burrs, and brews into a thermal carafe or straight into a travel mug.

Breville's Grind Control gives you more grind and strength settings. Cuisinart's DGB-800 is the cheaper burr option with a glass pot. And if you already own a burr grinder, skip this whole category and put the money into the brewer.

This is the only machine on this page with third-party paperwork. The SCA certified it in 2023, which means the brewing half meets the same temperature and time rules as a Moccamaster.

The rest of the spec sheet is long: six grind settings, an app, voice control and a carbon water filter. Its 75 oz tank brews roughly one and a half carafes between refills.

Brew with this if you want whole beans to become a thermal pot with one button, and you want proof the brewing part works.

Choose another if apps and Wi-Fi on a kitchen appliance make you nervous. Breville's Grind Control does the same job with buttons. See Breville Grind Control on Amazon

Breville's Grind Control is the settings-heavy option. You adjust grind size for each bean, pick from 8 strength levels, or switch to pre-ground on days the hopper is empty.

The listing promises it can brew into a large carafe or a tall travel mug. Breville includes a gold-tone filter and a 12-cup thermal carafe, and lists a 1-year warranty, which is short for the price.

Brew with this if you like adjusting grind size and want a thermal carafe without an app.

Choose another if the 1-year warranty bothers you at this price; the Café option is certified and the same tier. See Café Specialty Grind and Brew on Amazon

Cuisinart's DGB-800 is the most affordable burr grind-and-brew we logged. Grounds drop straight from the burrs into the basket, and a half-pound hopper with a sealed lid keeps beans out of the air.

It brews into a 12-cup glass carafe and offers regular, bold or extra-bold strength. The listing is thin otherwise: no temperature and no height. A second check on Oct. 28 added a 3-year limited warranty from the spec table, and showed the offer coming from a liquidation seller rather than Cuisinart or Amazon, so look at who's selling.

Brew with this if you want burr-ground coffee from a single machine and a glass pot doesn't bother you.

Choose another if the pot often sits for an hour. A glass carafe on a plate won't love that, so look at a thermal grinder model like the Breville. See Breville Grind Control on Amazon

Cuisinart's thermal grind-and-brew, the DGB-950BCC, did show up in the listings, but the one offer we found on Oct. 28 was a 230 V unit from a third-party seller, so it gets no button here. One more grinder machine, plus the route most coffee people actually take:

Built-in or separate?

A built-in grinder saves counter space and one step. It also ties two lifespans together. When the grinder motor dies, you either live with pre-ground or replace the whole machine.

A separate burr grinder costs about $100 for a good one. Add the $369 Moccamaster and you're near the price of the Café, with a certified brewer and a grinder you can keep for the next machine. That's the route most coffee obsessives take.

Grind-and-brew makes the most sense when counter space is tight or when the alternative is a can of pre-ground coffee that's been open since the last holiday, because in that kitchen even a modest built-in burr grinder is a dramatic step up in freshness. In those homes, the jump in freshness is real.

One warning: some grind-and-brew machines use blade grinders. Cuisinart sells one in the 12-cup range. Blade grinders chop beans unevenly, which defeats much of the point. Every machine on this page uses burrs.

Grinder worries

Is a built-in grinder worth it?

It's worth it if you'd otherwise buy pre-ground. If you'd buy a separate grinder anyway, it's mostly a space saver.

Café Grind and Brew: SCA certified with the grinder attached. Breville Grind Control: adjustable grinder, half-pound hopper, 1-year warranty (SCA list, Amazon listings).

How hard is it to descale and keep clean?

Grinder machines need more cleaning than plain drip: coffee oil and fines build up in the chute where grounds fall. Plan on brushing it weekly and descaling the brewer on schedule.

Breville includes a cleaning brush with the Grind Control; Café's water filter is meant to be swapped about every two months (Amazon listings).

Can it make just one cup?

Two of these can brew a single serving of fresh-ground coffee, which is rare outside pod machines.

Café: grinds and brews directly into a travel mug. De'Longhi TrueBrew: 8 to 24 oz per brew (Amazon listings).

Not one of these listings states a height. Grind-and-brew machines are tall because the hopper sits on top, so measure your cabinet clearance with the lid open before you order.

Living with a grinder machine

Noise first, because nobody mentions it in a product listing and everybody notices it the first morning the grinder starts at 6 a.m. while the rest of the house is still asleep. A burr grinder at 6 a.m. is loud in a small apartment, and programmable grind-and-brew means it'll be loud while you sleep. Some owners set the timer for after they're up.

Beans next. Oily dark roasts clog chutes faster. If you love them, brush the chute more often, and keep the hopper less than full so beans don't sit for weeks.

Water last. The Café runs a carbon filter that needs replacing; third-party six-packs exist. Breville's Grind Control doesn't list one, so fill it from a filtered pitcher if your tap tastes of chlorine.

Grinder FAQ

What are the best coffee makers with grinders built in for 2026?

The Café Specialty Grind and Brew for certified brewing, the Breville Grind Control for adjustability, and the Cuisinart DGB-800 for a lower price.

Is a built-in grinder as good as a separate grinder?

Usually not quite, because a separate grinder can be larger and better sealed. The gap is far smaller than the gap between fresh-ground and pre-ground coffee.

Can I use pre-ground coffee in a grind-and-brew machine?

Yes. The Breville Grind Control has a pre-ground setting, and most models let you bypass the grinder.

Do grind-and-brew coffee makers use burr or blade grinders?

Both exist. Every machine recommended here uses burrs; avoid blade versions if freshness is the reason you're buying.

How often should I clean the grinder in a coffee maker?

Brush the chute weekly if you brew daily, and descale the brewer whenever its light or the manual asks.

Which grinder coffee maker is best for one person?

The Café, because it grinds and brews into a travel mug. The De'Longhi TrueBrew is built only for single servings.
