OXO Brew 8-Cup vs OXO Brew 9-Cup: the timer is the whole decision

These two OXO machines share a brand, a temperature claim and a thermal carafe. The OXO Brew 8-Cup vs OXO Brew 9-Cup question comes down to whether you'll set a timer, and whether the SCA's certification matters to you.
Short answer
OXO Brew 8-Cup or OXO Brew 9-Cup? Get the 9-Cup if you want coffee ready when you wake up. Get the 8-Cup for SCA certification and a single-serve basket.
Both quote water at 194 to 205°F. Both use vacuum-insulated carafes, which means the coffee you pour at ten in the morning comes out of the same kind of insulated pot whichever machine you pick, and tastes much closer to the first cup than anything kept warm on a hot plate. They usually sell within a few dollars of each other, so price rarely settles it.

Which one
Choose the 8-Cup if
- You want the SCA mark on the box.
- You often brew just one mug.
- Your cabinets are low and you need a confirmed height.
Choose the 9-Cup if
- You'll program it every night.
- You like a single dial for everything.
- A freshness timer on the pot appeals to you.
Where they differ
Programming. The 9-Cup has a clock and a wake-up timer, set from one dial. The 8-Cup has neither. You press brew, and that's the end of the interface, which some people find restful and others find limiting the first morning they oversleep.
Certification. The SCA lists the OXO Brew 8-Cup (2025 entry) and an OXO 12-Cup from 2023. The 9-Cup wasn't on the list when we checked on Oct. 27, 2026. Both machines claim the same temperature range, so this may be about licensing rather than performance.
Single serving. The 8-Cup ships a single-serve basket that brews directly into a mug. The 9-Cup's BetterBrew system adjusts for small batches of about two cups, which isn't quite the same thing.
Evidence. The Coffee Locator named the 9-Cup its best value drip maker in April 2026. America's Test Kitchen and Tom's Guide both point to the 8-Cup. Different reviewers tested different OXO models, which is why roundups seem to disagree.
Size. One cup apart on paper. In mugs, that's a rounding error, so don't let the names steer you toward the 9-Cup if a timer isn't something you'd use at least most nights of the week.
